Sports & Feet

When you run your feet experience 6 times the normal force they feel when you walk. It is no wonder that many problems occur when people start becoming serious about sport or even dance and aerobics.

Podiatrists assess foot structure. If your foot bones are not in the right position many symptoms can arise. These can include:

  • Toe joint and arch pain
  • Pulled muscles
  • Shin splints
  • Heel pain
  • Knee and hip pain
  • Lower back pain

Treatment is aimed at getting joints to move about their normal positions. This can be achieved by an orthotic (specialised insole) device made from a plaster cast of the individual’s foot.

Gait and posture is assessed by using biomechanical analysis so that the correct orthotic may be prescribed for the appropriate condition, foot type, and footwear.
