Going Green

  • The Reebok Sports Club strives to implement energy-saving projects to reduce usage, carbon emissions and our impact on the environment.

Decléor Madagascar Initiative

Luxury skincare brand Decléor, one of the main products used in the Re:SPA, is committed to helping our environment. In partnership with MGO ASMADA, Decléor has implemented a responsible development project in Madagascar to help the local population preserve the biodiversity of their land.  The comprehensive project started in 2008 and includes:

1. A reforestation programme in the Masindray Valley aimed at protecting natural water sources and local flora; more than 100,000 trees (Ravintsara, Vetiver, Lemon, Eucalyptus) planted between 2008 and 2011

2. A solar electricity programme for schools in Masindray, to help prevent deforestation and promote the education of young people; provision of electricity for a school of 600 pupils in 2009 and two new school buildings in 2010 and 2011

3. A water supply system and water filter programme; filtration tank in 2010 and two new projects in 2011

The next steps: one new solar construction and 35,000 new trees

Saving Water

We have installed variable speed drives on all our water pumps to ensure they are operating as efficiently as possible. Aeration showerheads are in use throughout the club and deliver the high performance our members expect while using only two-thirds of the water. This saves both water and heating energy. Our water optimisers reduce water usage from taps and urinals.

Managing Heat

We use highly efficient condensing boilers that are environmentally friendly, use less gas and burn more efficiently.

Lighting

We have installed time switches on all lighting in the club. LED lighting is used in areas such as the pool because it uses 70% less energy than traditional bulbs. Motion sensors have also been fitted in some areas.

Plant

We have introduced variable speed drive motors to the pool pumps, which has led to dramatic savings in energy. We also employ a building management system that controls and monitors the club’s environment and mechanical electrical systems. This delivers further efficiencies by using cold weather as a cooling system.

Recycling and Responsible Towel Usage

The club works with Canary Wharf and Bayswater to ensure that all refuse is dealt with appropriately. In addition, signs in the changing rooms encourage our members to keep towel usage to a minimum. This helps us to save both cleaning and transport energy.

Major Enhancements to the Reebok Pool - 2012

You will be pleased to hear that all pool filters have been upgraded to a specialist sand filtration system.

The many benefits of this system include;

  • Reduced filtration velocity, meaning more pollutants are caught
  • Finer filtration resulting in clearer water and enhanced bather comfort
  • Dirt and pollutants are trapped more efficiently, reducing the already low amount of chemicals used
  • More efficient backwashing system, meaning less water is used
  • A more environmentally-effective filtration system, which performs better and saves vital resources such as water chemicals and energy
