The Reebok Sports Club has a dedicated boxing area, complete with a full-size ring and eight punching bags. Our boxing experts in the personal training team have more than 15 years' experience of professional boxing.
Boxing is a great way to get into shape. It incorporates all aspects of fitness from muscular strength and endurance to speed and coordination. It will have you feeling better about yourself in many ways, including giving you more determination, focus and patience.
The Reebok Sports Club has bob and weave ropes to its boxing ring. As the great Muhammad Ali once said: "You can't hit what your eyes can't see," and that's why bobbing and weaving are key manoeuvres in boxing.
The physical benefits that stem from boxing activities (running, push-ups, sit-ups, star jumps, and punching a heavy bag or focus mitts) will not only make you stronger, they will also improve your endurance, allowing you to go for longer. This will assist you in other aspects of your life that include any kind of physical activity.
For members who are new to boxing, a typical training routine might consists of learning how to hit the heavy bag correctly, as well as shadowboxing, skipping rope, calisthenics and jogging. You might even get in the ring for the occasional practice bout. Most beginners will spend a lot of time conditioning and learning the fundamentals. Boxing is widely considered to be one of the most physically demanding sports in the world.
It doesn't take long to see the positive results of boxing training. As well as personal training, the club offers combat classes with routines that are easy to follow.
The Boxing area comprises of the following:
Sparring is practice fighting to help hone skills, it is not a real bout to determine a winner. When sparring, participants should always use a gumshield, head-guard and groin-guard to avoid injury. Sparring gloves are often more padded than real boxing gloves – to ensure you don’t go back to the office covered in bruises. It is useful for sparring partners to agree to practice particular types of punches or defence moves, to help focus their training. Sparring can only be practiced with a Reebok Sports Club personal trainer.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of striking and grappling techniques. The sport can be standing or on the ground and includes moves from boxing, Brazilian jiujitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, karate, judo, and kung fu. The roots of modern mixed martial arts can be traced back to the ancient Olympics, where one of the earliest documented systems of codified full range unarmed combat was utilised in the sport of Pankration. Various mixed style contests took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s.
