At the Reebok Sports Club we play an active part in our community, working with a wide range of projects and schools to help support healthier, happier lifestyles.
EAST LONDON BUSINESS ALLIANCE (ELBA)
With the aim of combating poverty and unemployment in East London, ELBA connects businesses with the local community by providing mentoring and volunteering opportunities, and apprenticeship schemes. We work with ELBA’s employment team to help get people into work.
FOILS is an exciting joint initiative between Reuters, the Reebok Sports Club and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets that gives local schools the chance to develop skills in the Olympic sport of fencing. Students are coached by qualified instructors and then compete to win the Reuters FOILS trophy at a prestigious annual tournament at the Reebok Sports Club.
BURDETT NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE
The Burdett Neighbourhood Centre provides training and job opportunities for local people in the areas of health, education and the environment. We support the centre by helping our local community get fit and healthy, with free weekly women-only exercise classes at the club.
JOHN SCURR COMMUNITY CENTRE
With a strong emphasis on health and sports, this centre enables local people to interact with others through fitness-based activities. When the centre had to start charging for its women-only fitness classes, many could not afford to keep coming. We provided a fitness instructor, ensuring that the classes remained free and accessible to all local women who need it.
FIGHT FOR PEACE
Fight for Peace operates in communities with high levels of crime, providing young people with free classes in boxing and martial arts – sports which are proven to help people realise their full potential. With over 150 young people attending every day, maintaining facilities is a challenge. We’ve helped by donated fitness equipment to the Fight for Peace centre in North Woolwich.
City Gateway is a social enterprise charity that helps women and disadvantaged young people in Tower Hamlets to build active lives, running programmes, courses and workshops to empower them to work or study. Fitness and sports classes are an important part of this, and we have donated four cross training machines, 15 spin bikes and several balance boards.
NEW HORIZON YOUTH CENTRE
At the New Horizon Centre, homeless and vulnerable young people can improve their lives by taking advantage of services including housing and employment advice, counselling and gym facilities. We support the centre with donations of fitness equipment.
FLAVOUR GATEWAY CATERING
This exciting social enterprise offers organisations across the City and East London a catering service showcasing the area’s multi-cultural flavour, and provides training and job opportunities for unemployed people in Tower Hamlets. To support Flavour Gateway, we donated a full range of kitchen fittings and equipment from the Reebok Bar & Restaurant.
